Singapore Intellectual Property Office Designated as International Patent Search and Examination Authority

Designation of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) as an international authority in patent search and examination is significant for U.S. businesses as well as Singapore's ambitions to become an IP hub, legal, government and private sector sources told Bloomberg BNA Oct. 10-14. IPOS was appointed as an International Searching Authority (ISA) and International Preliminary Examining Authority (IPEA) under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) on Sept. 25, 2014 by the Assembly of the PCT Union during the 54th WIPO Assemblies. Search and examination of PCT applications can only be conducted by ISAs and IPEAs.
