Swedish Court Sends Online Furniture Retailers to Prison for Copyright Violation

A Swedish court sentenced employees of an online furniture retailer to prison for violating copyright on registered designs. The penalties surpass those handed out in the 2009 ruling against the founders of the Pirate Bay file-sharing site. Sweden's Patent and Market Court sentenced two company managers to 18 months in prison, according to an Oct. 13 ruling. A third company employee and owner of a shipping company received suspended sentences for their roles in the copyright infringement. The sentences were exceptionally harsh for the Scandinavian country.
