WTO Members Agree to Ease Access To Medicines in Poor Countries

Members of the World Trade Organization have ratified an agreement to provide poor countries with increased access to certain patent-protected medicines. As of Jan. 23 more than 110 WTO members ratified a protocol to amend the WTO's Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) Agreement, and in doing so surpassed the threshold required for the amendment to enter into force.
