Proteins for Diabetic Management

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) has become a global public health crisis and is starting to pose a great socio-economic burden in both developing and developed countries around the globe. In 2014, the global prevalence of diabetes was estimated to be 9% among adults aged 18+ years, mainly because of the increasing populations of overweight and obesity, as well as the increasingly growing aging populations. While the hallmark symptom of diabetes is hyper-glycemia and insulin resistance, this disease has been well appreciated to cause damages in the blood vessels and enhance the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and other complications, such as damages in the nerve, kidneys, and eyes and in amputations.
