Following a leak caused by damage to a provisional seal when laying the submerged caissons for the under-river crossing from Warnow to Rostock, a possible deterioration of the sandy foundation had been detected. The repair work involved performing controlled injection with sensors to consolidate the foundation of the submerged tunnel, placed by hydraulic backfilling. The drilling was performed in an air lock to avoid removing any additional sand from the river bed.
