The relationship between a shipyard and its customer is always an important one. When working together on a project like the Corps of Engineers' new 156'x35'xlO'9" hopper dredge Murden, that association becomes even more important because of the pressures of building a first-of-its-kind vessel. "Whenever you do a prototype, there are always things that come along that you may not have planned for," said Bill Gretzmacher, director of the Corps' Marine Design Center in Philadelphia.
