EU makes concerted push to lift trade barriers

The EU is making progress in removing trade barriers between itself and other key trading nations around the world. This is to be welcomed in an era when the textile industry needs every bit of help it can get in the face of economic difficulties in major consuming nations and weak growth in some emerging economies. Negotiations are set to take place with Japan, a key importer of luxury textiles and exporter of textile machinery, with the aim of reducing non-tariff barriers, such as port and labelling red tape, which are notoriously tough in Japan.
