The origins of Samil date back to 1965 when a Bradford textile trading company established a subsidiary know as International Mohair Topmakers (Pty) Ltd (IMT) in Port Elizabeth for the purchase of greasy mohair. Over the years there have been many changes in the business, moving from greasy purchasing and then commission combing both abroad and in South Africa, before its own combing mill, Border Combing Company (BCC) was opened in 1987.
