IWTO adopts new strategy around wool's textile ratings

The IWTO's focus on wool's environmental credentials was a key theme at the -2019 Wool Round Table. Each delegate was given a handout detailing the 10 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals the IWTO has adopted. The organisation is asking members to come forward with case studies to show how wool and the wool industry is contributing to those goals. Geoff Kingwill, chair of the IWTO Sustainable Practices Working Group, outlined the current situation around wool's textile ratings. He noted that the IWTO has been unable to convince the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) of wool's green credentials. "If SAC attaches its labels to garments the way it intends to, wool will be getting the red label, not the green label," he explained. "It doesn't make sense, it's counter intuitive, but that's where we are."
