Although I have been working with wooden boats only a short time, it seems to me that native species are underutilized in modern wooden boat building. I know that white oak and cedar have always been used extensively and that cherry has become increasingly popular for interiors, but where are the bright-finished hulls, coamings, and transoms made from local woods?
