Startup's Chipset Turns Multipath Foe Into Friend

For years, wireless operators have waged war against scattering multipath interference as they tried to get a clear signal to their customers. Now a startup claims it has turned that enemy into an ally, with a technology that will improve throughput and reach for 802.11 wireless technology now and other wireless schemes down the road. Palo Alto, Calif.-based Airgo Networks recently unveiled its AGN100 Wi Fi chipset, promising its multiple antenna system can double 802.1 1g's maximum 54 megabits per second of bandwidth at two to six times the range of existing chipsets-all while conforming to the core wireless 802.11 standards.
