In her first U.S. hit song, "Whenever, Wherever," the diminutive, belly-baring, pop-song-singing powerhouse from Latin America known as Shakira sang these lyrics about her personal struggle with self-acceptance: "Lucky that my breasts are small and humble / So you don't confuse them with mountains." It was a humorous take on a serious subject. "Yes, I have had moments when I wanted to change them, to make them bigger," she says today. "But I've come to accept them the way they are." When she brings the conversation around to the rest of her body, she says, "I have to watch what I eat because my butt can get really big. I have the kind of body that doesn't forgive anything. I am somehow voluptuous, with enough meat over my bones to give some away. So I've got to be careful with what I wear, too— no fabric with big prints, for sure, and no big stripes."
