It's so hard to maintain a stable, committed relationship, especially when the temptation to stray is all around. For years, you faithfully follow new installments and work to keep the spark alive. But then you wake up one day and Doctor Who is scrawny hipster Matt Smith. (If every Whovian contributed $200,1 bet we could get Tom Baker to come back.) Or DC reboots its comic books and all of a sudden Superman is dating Wonder Woman and Starfire is seven-eighths naked. Star Wars? I can't even talk about Star Wars. Let's just say I almost sold my Expanded Universe novels. Every time a franchise disappoints you, you're tempted to just climb into the escape pod and hit eject. Well, let me introduce you to the concept of sunk costs, you infidel. True Believers stick it out. Hang in until 2015 and you get new Disney Star Wars sequels. And what's one un-Baker-like Doctor compared to the awful Who-drought of 1996-2005? What are you going to do, stop watching? You'll be sorry when the Justice League movie redeems Green Lantern! And meanwhile, that new Tron cartoon is pretty great. Seriously.
