A Canadian original Ben-Mor Cables blazes a new path to rapid success

How does a group of four young individuals in their mid 20s venture into a field in which they have absolutely no experience, and, within 15 years, become their country's leading producer of cable assemblies and a major player in wire rope, synthetic slings, and chains? In 1992, Benoit Frappier, president/ CEO of Ben-Mor Cables, Inc. in St-Hyacinthe, about 30 miles from Montreal in Quebec, Canada, started cutting and coiling cable. Like many in the industry, he started his business from his car porch. But, unlike so many others, Ben-Mor didn't have to wait until the second, third, or even fourth generation to become an industry leader. Also, Frappier had two years experience working in a steel mill, but no background in this industry. Nor did his three partners, all with university degrees in business, but none with experience in the industry, who joined Frappier around 1996. They are Richard Plante, vice president, sales/marketing; Eric Rompre, vice president, production/ and Lyne-Mireille Leduc, vice president, finance.
