Sino-US venture bags second wind deal

Pakistani wind developer Dewan has handed Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Harbin Electric International a 49.6MW contract to build a project at Jhimpir,Thatta district, in Sindh province. The project will use 31 turbines of 1.6MW with 82.5-metre rotor blades, made by the GE-Harbin Electric joint venture in Shenyang city, north-east China. The joint venture began in 2010 as US firm GE sought to gain a foothold in the Chinese wind market. Harbin Eletric owns 51% of the joint venture, and GE 49%.
