摘要

I was recently listening to a lecture on survival at a wilderness medicine meeting, and one of the suggestions was to imagine yourself in a survival situation and then to think through your response. If you've been practicing this and are ready for a little greater challenge, consider picking up a copy of The Greatest Survival Stories Ever Told, edited by Lamar Underwood. This anthology of 17 stories, both fictional and nonfictional, pretty much runs the gamut of survival situations. You can find yourself alone in the mountains, trapped on a desert island (with thousands of rats for good measure), adrift at sea, or hiking in the desert. The detailed descriptions of so many different survival settings—including both poles, the oceans, the tropics, and the desert—ensure that most readers will encounter a new scenario to think about.
