International says it has introduced an enhancement to its Foambag technique for stopping flow and permanently sealing pipes and voids. The High Integrity Foambag is for use where contamination requires remote pipe sealing to prevent the passage of potentially hazardous material. Foambag was developed in the early 1980s as a way of stopping the flow of gas in mains and service pipes that were being abandoned. Over the years, the technique has been adapted for use in waste-water, drainage and civil engineering. Foambag is a fabric bag that is inserted into the pipe and filled with expanding polyurethane resin foam from an injection tube. As the foam expands, it fills the bag and at full expansion a small quantity of foam seeps through semi-porous sections of the fabric to adhere to the pipe wall.
