摘要

The total bill for last year's floods could be as high as £3B, with many households, insurance companies and local authorities still counting the costs. With about £200B worth of assets and 1.7 million properties still located in flood-risk areas in England and Wales, the figures are likely to grow if more is not done to help people protect themselves- and their property against the future threat of more flood damage. Stopping the floods is not always possible, but, if the cost of flooding is to be reduced, people need more time to prepare.By providing an early warning to residents, who can then take precautions and prepare their properties against flood waters, will inevitably help reduce the damage to property and the subsequent costs involved in making repairs.
