The Source for the Amhurst Main is the Stoke Newington Resevoir in Greater London, which is fed from the New River. Water enters the main, via a log barrier and weir and then into a 36-inch diameter concrete pipe. This runs for 20m and then bends in to direction of Coppermills Water Treatment works (WTW). The pipework is old and runs for 5km to Coppermills works. Along the way it reduces to 24-inch cast-iron pipe, and exits in a gush at the works.
