Apprenticeship to plug key skills gaps

One of the UK's first consultancy civil engineering apprenticeships has been launched at South Thames College in London.The apprenticeship has been developed by a consortium engineering consultancies including Mott MacDon-ald, Hyder Consulting (UK), Capita Symonds, WSP, Arup and Halcrow, with help from Transport for London (TfL), the National Apprenticeship Service and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).The apprenticeship's introduction is aimed at overcoming the skills gaps in key sectors of engineering, construction and IT, and fulfilling the need to bring in new recruits to an increasingly ageing workforce.
