Drought order to aid Sussex supplies

South east Water has been the latest company to be granted a drought order that allows it to protect Ardingly Reservoir and secure future water supplies for customers in Sussex following a year of low rainfall. Anglian Water secured a drought order in early December for its Rutland Reservoir. The company had sought special permission to temporarily change the terms of its licence, which allows it to abstract a set amount of water from the River Ouse. The drought order means South East Water could reduce immediately the minimum flow in the River Ouse, below its Barcombe Water Treatment Works, from 20Mld to 5Mld.
