Water UK has welcomed Defra's multimillion-pound plans to make greater use of anaerobic digestion in the UK as a renewable energy source. The organisation's comment followed a meeting between Defra ministers and representatives from the agriculture and biogas industries, supermarkets, water and energy companies, the waste and food sectors, NGOs, Regional Development Agencies, local government and regulators to discuss practical ways of achieving a major increase in the use of this sustainable technology.
