It is shown that in addition to the four-component gas 65 % Ar + 26.5 % He + 8 % CO_2 + 0.5 % O_2, other gas mixtures are suitable for high performance metal active gas welding under mixed gas (high performance MAGM welding). Comparably good results are attained with a three-component gas consisting of 60 % Ar + 30 % He + 10 % CO_2. It is further shown that with a 1.0 mm diameter wire electrode good welding results can be achieved with wire feed speeds of up to 48.5 m/min. The process stability is higher and the transition zones are smaller than with a comparable wire electrode of 1.2 mm diameter.
