The scarcity of resources represents an ever increasing challenge when it comes to ideally protecting structural components for many industry branches. For example, the extreme stressing during deep drilling by corrosion, pressure and wear calls for new material systems so as to minimise the considerable risks in terms of cost and environmental impact. Likewise, considerable economic losses also arise in other industrial sectors due to wear and corrosion. The energy, cement and ceramic industries rely on specialised coatings and innovative material concepts to drastically reduce the wear. The solution is provided by coating processes such as thermal spraying and weld surfacing. This way, tailored material solutions can be applied for the protection of structural components.
