An Exciting New Satellite for Meteorology

On February 27, 2014, a rocket blasted into space from Japan carrying a precious cargo that will revolutionize meteorology. This satellite is the Global Precipitation Mission (GPM) core sensor-a joint effort between NASA and the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Orbital insertion and testing were successfully completed, and on March 10, the sensors beamed back their "first light" image.
