All passenger boat operators must lodge search and rescue plans with the emergency services. These include defined rendezvous points, so that the boats can be found more easily by the emergency services when emergencies arise. However, these can differ from boat to boat, and there is no requirement for private boaters to have them. Now Dan Reid, a St John Ambulance community boat manager based on the River Nene at Northampton, has published his own search and rescue plan for use on the river, and is encouraging all Nene boaters to use it.
