BALA LAKE TO LLANGOLLEN

On a recent visit to see my mother we dug out some photographs of our first boat hire. In July 1969 we hired BalaLake from Canal Pleasurecraft at Stourport and spent a wholly memorable fortnight cruising to and from Llangollen. Bala Lake was in a fleet of wooden cruisers, some of which were rear-cockpit four-berths - and 1 believe that at least one is still going because I think I met it near Braunston a couple of years ago. The rest, like Bala Lake, had a rear cabin which contained a fixed double bed to make it a six-berth. We took about a dozen photographs, mainly of the six crew - actually seven; I was 14 at the time and occupied a blow-up mattress on the floor.
