PREHISTORIC BRITAIN: THE STONEHENGE ENIGMA

This is not your normal book for a WW review, but worthy of a mention as the author's theory of how Stonehenge was built involves a lot of boats working to adjacent inlets, ports and wharves. This was possible because it was built 5,000 years before most authorities date it, when the water levels were far higher and were lapping around the peninsular site depicted on the cover. Whilst it is an accepted theory that the blue stones came from the Preseli mountains in South Wales, it has always been a puzzle how they got up the now tiny rivers, but with the higher water levels they could be sailed directly to the shore beside the monument. The author locates the exact unloading site and draws the apparatus used to lift them from the boats using the tidal influence.
