COST-SHARING SCHEME FOR GROUNDWATER IN SOUTH EAST SOUTH AUSTRALIA

In southeast South Australia a conflict between users of groundwater has been settled by irrigators subsidising the deepening of wells for the Stock and Domestic users. The cost-sharing arrangements were innovative and unique at the time and a community survey shows them to be quite effective. We recommend that areas fraught with water conflicts may seek a cost-sharing similar scheme with modifications to suit their local conditions.
