Water And The Human Condition

As 2008 draws to a close I feel that it is appropriate to wish AWA members and their families a safe and happy festive season and best wishes for 2009. It's also an appropriate time to reflect on the fact that in Australia and other developed countries we enjoy a high standard of living, including access to hygienic water supplies and protection of water resources. Many other people are less fortunate and this has been recognised in the widely reported Millennium Development Goals. The goals were set in 2000 with nations committing to achieve a set of targets by 2015. The 8 goals are targets that reflect the rights of each person to health, education, shelter and security, broken down into 21 quantifiable targets that are measured by 60 indicators.
