Biosolids dewatering: an overview of WERF research

Reducing the water content of biosolids through dewatering is a highly desirable goal for any disposal option. Unfortunately, mechanical dewatering is not practical without costly chemical conditioning to aid water removal and increase the dewatering rate. As a leading US water research organisation, the Water Environment Research Foundation has conducted various studies to address the need to understand and optimise conditioning and dewatering. This article summarises findings from four studies, and looks at research planned for the future.
