Research effort brings membrane benefits

US-based Koch Membrane Systems has marked the completion of a five year period of product and application development by drawing attention to key successes from the programme. Koch highlights in particular the arrival of the Puron submerged membrane modules for application in membrane biorectors.The system uses hollow fibre membranes, 2mm in diameter.The important features of Puron are that the vertical fibres are fixed only at their lower ends, rather than top and bottom as is usual in MBRs.The tops of the individual fibres are sealed. This, the company states, means that the units containing fibre bundles do not become clogged at the top.
