The efforts to gauge the extent of and resolve the Deepwater Horizon oil spill are immense. Among the many initiatives, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is tracking the presence of potentially harmful chemicals in the waters of the Gulf of to determine the level of risk posed to fish and other wildlife. While these chemicals can impact ecosystems, the EPA does not expect drinking water supplies to be affected.rnThe agency has deployed field teams to collect samples of oily debris, tar balls, mousse oil and other petroleum waste products that have washed up on the shore along the Gulf Coast.
