The water communicator's challenge of conflicting messages

Water is life. Water is a human right. Water for all. As water professionals, how many times have we heard these slogans and catchy lines? These are used to raise public awareness of current water challenges, particularly the lack of access to safe water and sanitation worldwide, the right to water and the impact of water-related diseases, and usually they address the public and policy makers from developed countries about developing countries' issues. As the second UN decade 2005-2015 'Water for life' comes to an end, many are questioning the results of this major global initiative, with its multiplying water-related programmes and projects, and looking at how to continue efforts in the post-2015 agenda.
