Padre Dam water purification project to use advanced technologies

California's ongoing drought and the rising cost of imported water has motivated Padre Dam Municipal Water District to introduced advanced water purification technologies in a project funded through a $3 million Proposition 50 grant from the Department of Water Resources. The project will take wastewater through free chlorine disinfection, membrane filtration, reverse osmosis and ultraviolet / advanced oxidation. If a demonstration project is successful, the water will then be injected into the Santee groundwater basin where it will be naturally filtered, then withdrawn and treated again prior to distribution as drinking water. The project is scheduled to begin operation in March 2015.
