WATER REGULATORS FORUM - MONDAY 22 SEPTEMBER AND TUESDAY 23 SEPTEMBER

One of the six Leadership Forums taking place at the Congress will be the Water Regulator's Forum, organised in cooperation with ERSAR, Portugal's Water and Waste Services Regulation Authority. This event will be the first of its kind to focus specifically on water regulators and will provide a high level platform to discuss regulatory policies and future trends impacting water services provision. Jaime Melo Baptista, President of this year's IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition and Chairman of the Board of ERSAR, and David Alves, Coordinator of the Strategic Projects Department of ERSAR, see the regulation of water services assuming an increasing importance worldwide due to the need to establish a stable environment for the adequate provision of these essential services.'Water services regulators are seen as important players in the context of public policies for the sector,' they say.'They intervene in the relations between governments, local authorities, utilities and consumers, bringing more rationality and balancing the interests of all the stakeholders.'
