NV: Regional Planning Governing Board Approves Water-Growth Plan

On January 14, 2010, the Washoe Regional Planning Governing Board ("RPGB") unanimously voted to approve a resolution that amends the Truckee Meadows Regional Plan ("TMRP"). The policy change stipulates that population growth in Washoe County, Nevada, will be determined based on the estimated available water supplies. Washoe County includes the Cities of Reno and Sparks. On November 4, 2008, voters approved Washoe County Question #3, a ballot initiative that asked if the TMRP should be amended to include a policy requiring local government to balance land development with a sustainable water supply. The question passed with 73% of voters approving the measure (see WS November 2008).
