EPA has yet to determine how it will handle two key vacancies in its Office of the Science Adviser (OSA), the staff office that supports research chief Paul Anastas in his role as the agency's Science Adviser, after OSA's chief scientist left the office. The moves come as the agency is facing a host of major science challenges, including a wholesale reorganization of its Office of Research & Development (ORD), major questions about high-profile risk assessments and many others. According to an agency source, Pai-Yei Whung, EPA's chief scientist, recently left the agency for a year's detail with the World Bank. An EPA spokeswoman confirms that Whung "has taken a detail with World Bank. However, no decision has been made about the position."
