Holloman Air Force Base (AFB) is located approximately 90 mi (145 km) north of El Paso, Texas, situated in New Mexico's high desert country at an average elevation of about 4200 ft (1300 m). Approximately 300 mi~2 (800 km~2) of mountainous terrain dominates the region, with peaks extending up to 9000 ft (2700 m) above sea level. The Holloman AFB Wastewater Treatment Facility, owned by the U.S. Air Force and operated by Woodard &Curran (Portland, Maine), treats wastewater for a mostly military community of approximately 10,000 people. Influent is primarily domestic waste-water and includes waste from dining halls, dormitories, gymnasiums, offices, and flight operations services.
