Calif, prosecutes first e-scrap fraud case

After being painted as an agency beleaguered by scams, California's electronic waste recycling program is seeing its first case prosecuted in Santa Clara Superior Court. The owner and two managers of San Jose, Calif.-based electronic waste recycler Tung Tai Group face charges for submitting $1 million in "fraudulent and fictitious" reimbursement claims for more than 2 million pounds of electronic waste that they never recycled, according to a release from then-Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr. when the men were charged Aug. 25.
