Melton Council refuses Boral's Ravenhall expansion

In a dramatic turn of events, Melton Council has reportedly refused Boral's application to expand its landfill at Ravenhall in Victoria. The refusal apparently follows the work of local group Stop the Tip, who staged a potent campaign against the new facility, including a rally outside Melton Council's offices attended by more than 400 residents. In addition Melton Council reportedly received more than 6,600 letters objecting to the landfill application. While Boral may still appeal the Council's decision, if the appeal fails the knockback will result in a dramatic change in the available landfill airspace in Melbourne.
