The Royal Navy's Antarctic Patrol ship, HMS Protector completed a scheduled refit at the end of 2019 - nothing unusual about that except for the fact that the work took place in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. As part of its 10 year FISS (Future In Service & Support) contract with the MOD, shiprepairer UK Docks and Marine Services scoped, planned and managed the maintenance package for the vessel, with the work being undertaken at the Detyens Shipyard in Charleston. This leading east coast US repairer is well acquainted with naval vessels, being a leading repairer of USN and MSC vessels.
