Waste prevention saves resources and energy, and reduces costs of waste collection and treatment and greenhouse emissions in all phases of a product's life cycle.rnGeneration of municipal waste, currently estimated at about 600kg/ inh/y (EU 27), will continue to increase if public authorities do not react strongly and positively. In other words we might well end up by 2020 with an increase of ten per cent (reaching 340 million tonnes pa) of municipal solid waste.
