No system, however perfect, could withstand the test of time. Even though the Mandarinic Examinations system existed for over a thousand years, it couldn't avoid decline. Reasons were numerous, but the main ones pertaining to Viet Nam could be as follows:rnPrivileges granted to mandarins were excessive. Many scholars were devoted to their ideals of serving the country and its citizens, but there were also many who strived to pass the examinations only for they own material gains.
