摘要

In this paper, it is shown that power reduction of complementarynmetal-oxide-semiconductor integrated circuits (CMOS IC's) is possible bynexploiting statistical properties of the input signals. The statisticalnproperties of video signals are analyzed, and it is shown that a newnlow-power signed-digit representation and an offset representation cannreduce the number of signal changes for the input data compared tonbinary representation. The increased effort for data processing has beenntaken into account and it is shown for which types of video signals thenalternative representations are advantageous. Circuit simulations havenbeen performed to verify the theoretical results
