Rolls-Royce signs MOUs with Exelon and CEZ

On November 8, UK-based engineering firm Rolls-Royce announced it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Exelon Generation to operate small modular reactors (SMRs) in the UK and internationally. Rolls-Royce said Exelon will use its extensive LWR operational experience to assist the company in development of the UK SMR. Currently, Rolls-Royce and a consortium of companies are working together with the UK government to secure a commitment for a fleet of factory-built 440 MWe SMRs to be operational within a decade. Rolls-Royce said fleet construction of the SMR will allow the UK to create new factories that will make components and modules, which will aid in COVID-19 pandemic recovery efforts.
