Rosatom planning land-based SMR in Yakutia

On November 3, Russia’s Rosatom and representatives of various Sakha Republic (“Yakutia”) governments held a seminar on small modular reactors (SMRs) where Rosatom officials revealed they recently completed a field survey on a potential site to host an RITM SMR in the village of Ust-Kuyga in Yakutia, Sakha Republic, in Russia’s Far East. The envisioned ground-based SMR is designed to supply power to “isolated power systems or remote areas and consumers,” said Rusatom Overseas Oleg Sirazetdinov during the seminar as quoted by NEI Magazine. “It is distinguished by its compactness and modularity, a shortened construction period and high safety standards. I am confident that the project will not only accelerate the development of Yakutia, but will also strengthen Russia’s leading position in the field of nuclear energy on the world market.”
