On the night of March 25, 1994, Takuma Ito and Go Matsuura, two 19-year-old Japanese students at Marymount College, were shot in the head at a parking lot of Ralphs Grocery in San Pedro, Calif. They died two days later, and three days after that, Raymond Butler, an 18-year-old resident of a public housing complex 2 miles away, was arrested. He was convicted of the students' murders last week by a Los Angeles County jury; a sentencing trial is now underway, and he could face the death penalty.
