It's a high-tech company unlike any other. Techies are outnumbered by art history majors, librarians and professional purveyors of fine art and photography. It has no stock options, no intention of going public and a business plan that effectively calls for losing money until the next millennium. The company is called Corbis, from the Latin word for a basket that contains valuable objects. In Corbis's case, the contents of the basket represent what Charles Mauzy, director of media development, calls "the entire breadth of human experience."
