Baby turtles, like ceramic knives and plastic explosives, won't trip a metal detector. But that didn't stop U.S. customs inspectors at Miami International Airport from discovering 55 of the squirmy creatures (on the endangered species list) shoved into the pants of a passenger arriving from Barbados. Inspectors in Miami scan some passengers with BodySearch, a low-dose X-ray imager that sounds like something advertised in comic books to testosterone-addled adolescents. The machine sees through garments to detect stashed weapons, drugs, or other contraband.
